Join us for a dynamic 3-hour workshop exploring the wider system benefits of geothermal energy generation.
We’ll move beyond cost and carbon savings to examine broader implications such as socio-economic impacts, energy security, infrastructure integration, and flexibility.

  • Introduction to the IEA Geothermal TCP Taskforce on Wider System Impacts and its ambitions.

  • Expert talks to set the scene and encourage a systems-thinking approach to geothermal.

    Interactive workshop where your expertise will help shape tangible outputs for the taskforce.

    • Interaction with electricity grids

    • Combined power, heat, and critical minerals supply

    • Socio-economic impacts (job creation, skills transition)

    • Environmental considerations (land use vs other technologies)

  • Panel Q&A

  • Interactive Group Workshop – Help deliver on the taskforce’s objectives:

    • Share information from established geothermal projects

    • Build a shared understanding of system impacts across countries

    • Identify priority impacts for different contexts

    • Lay the groundwork for quantifying system impacts in project assessments

  • Closing Discussion

The workshop will be in person only - there is no video option for this workshop.
