Landsvirkjun, the National Power Company of Iceland, develops and operates renewable energy resources in Iceland — hydropower, geothermal, and wind — with a strong focus on sustainability, innovation, and responsible resource utilization.

Landsvirkjun operates three geothermal power plants in Iceland, i.e. Þeistareykir, Krafla and Bjarnarflag, with an installed electrical capacity of 154 MW. Landsvirkjun is actively preparing expansions and new innovative geothermal projects. Through its engagement in IEA Geothermal, Landsvirkjun supports international cooperation to advance geothermal technology and environmental performance holistically. 

Jónas Ketilsson, the Executive Committe Member for Landsvirkjun, is the Task Leader for the IEA Geothermal Gas Management Task, contributing to international collaboration on sustainable management of geothermal gases and supporting knowledge sharing across member countries. At Landsvirkjun Jonas is the Programme Director for the Þeistareykir Expansion Programme, overseeing strategic planning, delivery, and integration in harmony with the environment.

Landsvirkjun is active in supercritical geothermal research and development, e.g. by planning the Krafla Magma Testbed Project as a continuation of drilling IDDP-1 successfully in Krafla.
